Upload a custom profile link icon

A connector that syncs people data can add a custom link to each person's People profile, such as a link to your company's internal directory. Upload an icon for that link from the connector's Setup tab so people can recognize it on their colleagues' profiles.

Glean Support sets up the custom link itself: its name, the URL template, and the field in the person's synced data that fills in the URL. Support can also set the label people see when they hover over the icon. You can't change these settings from the Admin console. To add or change a custom link, contact Glean Support.

After Support sets up the link, the connector's Setup tab shows a People profile link icon field. The icon you upload there only changes how the link looks. It doesn't change where the link goes.

Glean doesn't have a built-in icon for most custom links. Until you upload one, the link usually doesn't appear on People profiles.

The profile link icon is separate from the other images Glean shows:

  • Connector icon — the icon beside the connector's name in search results. It's on the same Setup tab, and changing one icon doesn't change the other.
  • Profile photos — uploading a profile link icon doesn't change anyone's profile photo.
  • Links people add themselves — people can add their own social network links when they edit their profile. See Customizing your Glean profile.

Prerequisites​

Ask Glean Support to set up a custom People profile link for the connector. The People profile link icon field appears only on connectors that have one.

Upload or replace the icon​

Use a static, square image. The upload accepts files up to 1 MB and doesn't support animated images, such as GIFs. For a sharp result, use an image that's at least 32 × 32 pixels.

Open the connector's Setup tab

Go to Admin console → Connectors, open the connector that provides the custom link, and click the Setup tab.

Choose an image

Under People profile link icon, click the upload button, or click the current icon to replace it. Then add the image one of two ways:

  • On the Upload tab, click Choose an image and select a file.
  • On the Link tab, enter the URL of a hosted image and click Submit.

Crop the image (optional)

Click Crop to adjust the square crop, then click Done.

Save the connector

Save your changes on the Setup tab.

Check a People profile

Open the People profile of someone who has the custom link. Confirm the new icon appears and that clicking it still opens the same destination.

Glean applies the new icon without recrawling the connector, but the change can take some time to reach every People profile.

Troubleshooting​

If the People profile link icon field doesn't appear, make sure you opened the connector that provides the custom link. If it still doesn't appear, that connector doesn't have a custom link set up. Contact Glean Support.

If the icon appears but the link goes to the wrong page, the icon isn't the cause. Ask Glean Support to review the link's URL template.
