Gleanbot overview
Glean in Slack (also known as Gleanbot) integrates enterprise search and knowledge directly into Slack. While Slack is a rich source of information, it often leads to chaos where teammates spend time manually answering questions. Gleanbot addresses this problem by ensuring knowledge is instantly discoverable and accessible.
Key capabilities
- The bot automatically detects questions and responds instantly when tagged (
@Glean) or when a question is registered in a channel. - Search across all company knowledge (previous Slack messages, knowledge articles, etc.) directly from any channel using the
/gleancommand. - Answers are personalized and strictly respect the content permissions of the user who asked the question.
- Provides a daily digest summary of relevant information from selected Slack channels and topics, delivered directly to the user.
Compatibility
Gleanbot supports standard Slack workspaces and Slack Enterprise Grid organizations, including environments that use the Real-Time Search (RTS) API.
- Slack connector: Connects your Slack workspace or Enterprise Grid to Glean so you can search Slack messages, files, and identities from Glean, and run Gleanbot against your indexed Slack data.
- Slack RTS connector: Integrates Glean with Slack’s real-time search (RTS) APIs for federated Slack results and powers Gleanbot in RTS‑enabled environments.
For setup, migration, and detailed RTS behavior, refer to the Slack connector documentation, including Slack connector changes: Gleanbot impacts and FAQ.
