This guide provides troubleshooting steps for known issues when connecting to the Glean MCP Server.

Prerequisites

Before troubleshooting, verify:
  1. MCP Server enabled: Admin Console > Platform > MCP
  2. OAuth Server enabled: Admin Console > Settings > Third-party access (OAuth)
  3. Correct instance name: Found in Admin Console > Settings > About Glean
  4. User has Glean access: Active account with appropriate permissions

Known Issues

ChatGPT: Initial Connection Error Requiring Refresh

Symptoms:
  • Error message when first connecting the ChatGPT connector
  • Connection succeeds after refreshing the page
Solution:
  1. Refresh the page after initial connection attempt
  2. If issue persists, re-add the Glean MCP connector in ChatGPT settings
Note: ChatGPT requires the specific endpoint https://[instance-name]-be.glean.com/mcp/chatgpt and supports search and fetch tools.

General Setup Requirements

Authentication

  • OAuth server must be enabled (Admin Console > Settings > Third-party access)
  • User must have active Glean account with appropriate permissions
  • For API tokens: Use scopes MCP, AGENT, SEARCH, CHAT, DOCUMENTS, TOOLS, ENTITIES

Network

  • Firewall must allow HTTPS traffic to *.glean.com
  • Check proxy settings if behind corporate firewall
