Search and autocomplete in chat

As you type in the Glean chat input, Glean helps you find the right content without switching to the Search page. It suggests relevant documents in an autocomplete dropdown, and for short, keyword-style queries it shows high-confidence search results inline in the conversation.

Document autocomplete

Chat autocomplete in Glean suggests relevant documents as you type in the chat input. You can click a suggestion to insert it into your message or open the document directly without sending a separate query.

As you type keywords or phrases, Glean surfaces real‑time document suggestions below the input. Suggestions are selected by matching your input and context with document titles, content, and metadata so the most relevant items appear first.

With this feature, you can:

• Find the right document faster while composing a prompt without switching to Search
• Insert a suggested document into your message to give Glean immediate context
• Open a suggested document in a new tab to review details before you ask a question

Privacy and permissions

Autocomplete suggestions include only content that you have permission to see. Glean is permission-aware and follows your organization's data governance rules across all surfaces.

Get started with autocomplete

1. Open Glean and start a chat.

2. In the input, type a keyword, for example, project, doc title, or team name.

3. Pick a suggestion to either:

   • Insert the document into your message, or
   • Open the document to view it.
   
   

Search results in chat

When you type a short, keyword-style query, a compact set of high-confidence search results appears directly in the conversation. This helps you jump straight to relevant documents and people without switching to the Search page.

Results appear for queries that look like a search rather than a conversation, for example a document title (Q3 roadmap), a team or person name, or a short keyword phrase (OKR 2025).

1. Type a keyword or short query in Glean.
2. A compact set of top results appears inline above the chat answer.
3. Click any result to open it, or select View more results to open the full Search results page.
