Overview

Glean canvas is a feature that enables users to draft, iterate, and refine written content directly within the Glean platform. Canvas is designed to streamline the process of collecting your ideas, creating documents, reports, proposals, and other written materials by leveraging Glean’s AI-powered writing assistance. This feature is available to users as part of the Glean Assistant experience and is intended to help individuals and teams produce high-quality content efficiently. No configuration is needed. Canvas and the personalized writing features work out of the box using your existing data.

Key Capabilities

  • Drafting Content: Users can start a new document and receive AI-powered suggestions to help structure and compose their writing.
  • Direct Editing: Users can type directly into the canvas interface if they want to add their own information to the document. All changes are automatically saved.
  • Targeted Editing: Users can highlight a section of the canvas and prompt Assistant to make changes based on the highlighted area.
  • Iterative Editing: Canvas supports multiple rounds of editing, allowing users to refine their drafts with feedback and suggestions from the Assistant.
  • Personalized Writing Style: Assistant adapts to each user’s unique writing style by analyzing existing communications across connected platforms. This ensures that generated content matches the user’s tone, structure, and vocabulary, requiring minimal manual revision. This is done automatically and does not require any additional setup.
  • Seamless Integration: Canvas is integrated into the Glean workspace, making it easy to access and use alongside other Glean features.
  • Citations: View exactly where the content came from with a sources section at the bottom of the document.
  • Version History: Want to go back to a previous canvas and pull in some information? You can easily go back to previous versions with version history in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Discoverability: Look for the canvas icon in your conversation thread history to see which threads have a canvas at a glance.

How It Works

  1. Start a New Document: Users can trigger a canvas one of two ways:
  • Tell Assistant you want to work on some writing-oriented task, such as, “Write a report summarizing everything I accomplished this week.”
  • Manual trigger by clicking the + menu in the composer and selecting canvas from there.
  • If you got a response in chat that you want to work on within a canvas, you can also click the “Edit in canvas” button at the bottom of the response.
  1. Receive AI Assistance: The Assistant provides suggestions for structure, phrasing, and content based on the user’s intent and previous writing patterns.
  2. Finalize and Share: Once the document is complete, users can export it to Google Docs or Microsoft Word, share it via email or Slack, or continue collaborating within the Glean platform.

Use Cases

  • Drafting Emails and Reports: Quickly compose professional emails, reports, or proposals that reflect your authentic voice.
  • Content Personalization: Ensure that all written materials align with individual or organizational communication standards.
  • Creating Meeting Summaries and Action Items: Generate meeting recaps with key decisions and next steps by pulling from transcripts, notes, and follow-up messages.
  • Building Knowledge Base Articles: Draft internal documentation and how-to guides that maintain consistent terminology while referencing existing company knowledge.
  • Generating Status Reports: Compile progress updates by aggregating information from project tools, emails, and conversations to highlight accomplishments, blockers, and milestones.

Benefits

  • Maintains Authenticity: Content generated in canvas sounds like the user, not generic AI output.
  • Saves Time: Reduces the need for extensive manual editing by producing drafts that closely match the user’s style.
  • Consistent Branding: Supports a unified communication style across all documents and teams.
  • No Configuration Required: The Assistant works immediately, using existing data from connected platforms—no setup or sample uploads needed.
